Travel pains

If you've happend to read my latest post on the babes site you may stop here and come back at another time. This post will be nothing more than a summary of my latest travel to the states.
In the recent past (with recent I mean the last 10 years) I unfortuneately never arrived in in Minneapolis at the planned arrival time. It almost seems that there is a curse on me or the town...
This time my flight out of Germany was late. But do to very strong tail winds and the captains great flying, we caught up time and arrived early in NYC. (Now that was a very unusual expierience for me). I went through immigrations (meeting another very "friendly" immigrations officer, which shall be told about at another time), which is a very time consuming procedure, then through customs, thinking "Wow, I actually don't have to rush to the next gate!", onlt to arrive at the gate and see my outgoing flight is delayed. So I now have another 2 (!) hours of time to kill. Something difficult if you travel on your own, but together with a two-year old, something almost not accomplishable. Especially considering the fact, that airports have no facilities for children. Not that I expect a playground or anything large than that. But maybe a tiny slide or something... I know what you're thinking, these germans have expectations one can hardly meet up to. And it's not as if you find these facilities at a german airport (or any other country I know of, or been to). But seriously, the airlines know that they have difficulties with their flights leaving on-time (even though EVERY airline will tell you something different, of course). So why don't they put a little tiny bit of money into the waiting comfort for passengers tavelling with children? It would help other travellers as well because it would reduce the bored, and therefore loud, children in the waiting area!

I hate situations like todays.

I, happy at work, looking forward to a fun afternoon with Mr. KH and boy KH, expecting nothing bad. Then. Good friend of mine comes in, all up in tears. After about 5 minutes of sobbing she finally calmes down enough to tell me what´s wrong. BIG fight with boyfriend. Packed some things and left.

Me: speachless. What do you say in a situation like this? It´s not that I felt akward, it´s just that these things are not suppose to happen to close friends. And even though I am sure they will get their act together it sound so lame saying it.

I really don´t know. There is no perfect advise one can give. Especially only knowing one side of the story. Then again, do I want to know the other side? Do I really want to get involved? Usually the ones getting involved will be the bad ones in the end. And THAT´S something I do not want!

And how could I know what is best for her to do? What would be the best for them? To break up? What about hte child?

Please let me never have a situation like this!!
